This DVD, shot by Bernard Leroux, was made near the beginning of a tour in November 2006 at the beautiful Glenn Gould Studio in downtown Toronto. It was a pleasure to be on the road again with Michael Manring, and to be introducing Andy McKee to my audience. This performance was just a few days before Andy shot the fateful YouTube videos that went on to launch his now worldwide fame. Despite the fact that people hadn't heard him before, you can hear the excitement in the crowd as people discover his talent. It was a great night.
I've been a fan of Michael's groundbreaking work on the bass since the heyday of Windham Hill back in the '80s, and jamming with him is one of the highlights of my career.

Solo Acoustic Guitar
Don's Passion Session CD, recorded in Berlin's Passionskirche, was released in March 1999 on Narada/Virgin Records. The recording brings Don back to his roots as a solo fingerstyle guitarist, as he produces his first totally solo album ever for Narada's Masters of Acoustic Guitar series. Don got the news of the offer of a new contract with Narada while on tour in Germany in November 1998. The planned release date for his first CD for the company was so soon that he decided to team up with his recording engineer friend Knut Becker right away and record the album straight to two-track digital through a Schoeps stereo microphone in the acoustically perfect confines of the Passionskirche (The Church of the Passion) in Berlin's funky Kreuzberg neighbourhood.
Solo Bass
Hailed by many as the world's leading solo bassist, Michael has been pushing back the boundaries of what's possible with just a bass guitar for two decades, winning thousands of fans and wowing countless audiences the world over with his stunning compositions and mind-blowing technical mastery of the instrument. Soliloquy is his latest Solo release.
Fusion
'What We Do', the trio's third album, is a collection of contemporary jazz standards done their way. Taking compositions by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins, among others, MMS breaks the songs down and builds them back up, drawing on their insanely deep well of talent, as well as the sonic treatments of noted guitarist/texturalist David Torn, who mixed the album. The first pressing comes with a bonus live CD (documenting the band's first gig together) while supplies last.
Bass / Fusion
"The Book of Flame brings together the thorny mathematics of Michael Manring's tuning theories with his wide-ranging artistic vision, the unalloyed metal aggression of Thonk with the melodic and textural sensibilities of Drastic Measures, the icy austerity of electronica and the sensuality of Afro-Asian modes and rhythms. The resulting construction could collapse under its own weight if not for Michael's maturing compositional sense and his always-lurking sense of humor." - Bass Player Magazine

Gates of Gnomeria is a collection of Andy McKee original songs and two covers. His cover of Björk's Venus as a Boy is a stunning multi-track arrangement of one of her best known songs from her debut. Joined by Bassist Jeff Schmidt on two songs, A Sphere and Dependant Arising, the songs on Gates of Gnomeria as a collection are more laid-back than on Art of Motion and convey larger musical ideas at the same time.

In my humble opinion, Andy is the most innovative and exciting fingerstyle guitarist to emerge in years. Still in his 20's, Andy has developed a mastery of the 6-string guitar and the harp guitar that leaves me speechless. He is the most textural player of the instrument since Michael Hedges, and he creates sonic architecture worthy of the great modern composers for any instrument. - Don Ross

His song-writing draws in listeners and pulls-out emotions through the power of his music.
