Scott Henderson

Scott Henderson is a fusion guitarist best known for his work with the band Tribal Tech. He is a highly acclaimed guitarist, and his improvisational ability is particularly well regarded.

A South Florida native, Scott Henderson began playing guitar at an early age. His formative musical years were spent listening to rock, blues, funk and soul, and his interest in jazz developed later on, thanks to the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis and others. He still professes to being a blues player at heart.

After graduating from Florida Atlantic University, Henderson moved to Los Angeles and began his career in earnest, playing and recording with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, bassist Jeff Berlin and "Players", and Weather Report's Joe Zawinul. His first recording was on Chick Corea's album "Elektric Band", on which Carlos Rios also played guitar. On this album Scott played fusion guitar solos filled with his unique phrasing.

Scott formed Tribal Tech with bass player Gary Willis in 1984. He toured and recorded with the band up until their informal dissolution following the 2000 album Rocket Science, and during that time brought himself to the forefront of modern jazz/fusion guitar playing. In 1991 he was named '#1 Jazz Guitarist' by Guitar World magazine, and in January 1992 he was voted best jazz guitarist in Guitar Player magazine's Annual Reader's Poll.

Scott Henderson has more recently moved back to his blues roots, releasing the critically acclaimed blues album Dog Party in 1994. His latest solo release Scott Henderson LIVE follows in this vein, and his work has also moved into funk/jazz fusion. He has repeatedly stated that he is enjoying playing in bands which do not have keyboard players, as it allows him to branch out more and properly explore the guitar's full potential as an instrument.

Scott Henderson : Well to the Bone

Fusion / Blues

Well to the Bone is Scott Henderson's third solo outing and perhaps his best to date. Unlike the first two releases, "Dog Party" and "Tore Down House" which were heavily blues influenced, "Well to the Bone" is somewhat of an enigma and hard to categorize into any one genre. Nevertheless, the songs and guitar compositions are probably the best Henderson has ever penned.

Scott Henderson : Tore Down House

Electric Blues

Henderson strengthens his case for why he is an extremely versatile guitarist. His exceptional playing is supported by drums, bass, harmonica, keyboards, sax, flute, trumpet and trombone as well as the vocals of the great Thelma Houston and the somewhat lesser known, Masta Edwards.

Scott Henderson : Dog Party

Electric Blues

Scott Henderson's playng on this cd represents a blend of blues and fusion that works seamlessly with the composition. Henderson steps outside of the framework of your basic I-IV-V blues progression and displays a harmonic vocabulary that you would have to search far and wide to equal.
