Craig D'Andrea's story is similar to many that came before him. Lost in the woods when he was three, he spent the next nine years traveling with a pack of wolves who eventually accepted him as their own. Unable to make his pack calls with the needed amplification, he fashioned a call from dropped ram horns and honed his ability to accurately reproduce the seventeen major howls the pack used to communicate.
It was during this time that his musical abilities started to develop. When he was twelve, Craig found himself stranded on an ocean ice flow and for sixteen days was drifting into the ocean. Fashioning a tool for hunting out of bone and fish entrails, he found it could be strummed to make a variety of new sounds. Although he could not recreate his packs calls with the tool, he new that day, he wanted to strum rather than blow.
After being rescued by a fishing boat sixteen days out to sea, his "boy raised by wolves" story spread around the world was featured by several international news outlets. His fame earned him a place on several circus tours in which he performed an act where he would run on all fours with other circus animals and then put the animals in a trance with the music he made from strumming his tool.
