Daniel Voth

Daniel was inspired to pursue music at an early by watching his Grandfather Salvatore Calderone, a professional pianist in Ohio. He taught himself piano and started taking classical guitar lessons at age 12, and later electric guitar. In 7th grade he discovered Metallica, Master of Puppets when one of the classmates brought a tape to listen to during study hall. Soon after, Daniel started listening to Iron Maiden, Fates Warning and Savatage. He considers these bands some of his early influences for his style of music.

In High School, Dan’s favorite band and album, Images and words by Dream Theater, inspired him to form a progressive metal band, called Melodrama, for which he wrote all the music. Melodrama recorded two full-length albums, called Disarray and Shaded Reality. After the break-up of Melodrama in 2002, Daniel took on supporting roles in numerous other bands, such as bass guitar for Substance and various cover bands.

He then began studying pieces by Agustín Barrios Mangoré and other classical guitarist like contemporary classical guitarist Andrew York. Soon after he saw Andy McKee’s YouTube video of “Drifting” and the spark for his new music project was officially ignited! In 2010 he attended his first Canadian Guitar Festival in Kinston, hosted by Acoustic guitar player Del Vezeau. He was blown away by the talented guitarists like Antoine Dufour, Craig D’Andrea, Erik Mongrain, Dominic Frasca, Stefano Barone, Sergio Altamura, Pino Forastiere, Ewan Dobson, Gareth Pearson and many more. Dan considers that first Canadian Guitar Festival a turning point in his career where he began to focus on fingerstyle acoustic guitar and started writing the songs for his first acoustic guitar album, The Singularity.
