Jacob Raagaard is a Lap Steel guitarist from Denmark. Jacob started his music journey on a regular guitar, taking his first guitar lesson at a Danish music school at the age of 11. The interest for the guitar first really started to grow when he a couple of years later started taking lessons from the Danish fingerstyle guitarist and composer, Christian Alvad. Jacob was fascinated with Christian Alvads guitar playing and the modern fingerstyle genre. Alvad introduced Jacob to CandyRats Records YouTube channel.
The music by Candyrat artists like Andy McKee, Don Ross and Antoine Dufour really resonated with Jacob. He later discovered the Weissenborn guitar while exploring the many fingerstyle videos on YouTube. It was the song “The moment” by Thomas Oliver that sparked his interest in the Weissenborn guitar. Jacob started practising slide guitar on a regular acoustic guitar by raising the strings and playing slide with a bar. When Jacob got his first Weissenborn guitar it didn’t take long before he wrote his very first song, Sundown Slide.
The sound of a Weissenborn guitar is normally associated with traditional Hawaiian music. Jacob uses different modern fingerstyle techniques in his playing on the Weissenborn to achieve a unique and modern sound. Jacobs main instrument is a Style 3 Weissenborn built by the Australian luthier Richard Wilson.
